Broad Goals
Children’s needs and abilities will be fully identified and catered for.
Growth and progression will be fostered through all class levels.
Good work habits and study skills will be promoted.
Social attitudes, which reflect the values and ideals of our school and community, will be developed.

Children learn best, when learning builds on what is already known.
Children learn by active involvement in the learning process.
Success motives the learner like nothing else. Be sure to celebrate success and be specific about what makes it a success.
Considerations
Children should be encouraged to be independent learners, responsible for their own learning and actions.
Before beginning to teach, the child’s present level of knowledge, skill and experience needs to be ascertained.
The highest standards need to be encouraged. High expectations and the use of appropriate models will help to nurture/ develop potential.
Evaluation is critical to determine the best way to proceed.
Essential skills development and knowledge must be pursued.
Teachers should endeavour to provide a range of interesting activities and various teaching styles in order for the children to learn at an optimum level..
Strategies for coping with change and all manner of Technologies eg I.C.T. Must be taught. Resilience, Tenacity, courage, honesty, etc.
The Classroom Conducive to learning would incorporate:
a safe and caring environment
respect for individuals and their cultural heritage
positive support/ learning environment / atmosphere - tone
co-operation
quiet control
an element of competition and sensible risk taking by learners
caring teacher enthusiasm
coverage in ‘ thinking skills, exploring values and beliefs of self, school and communities’
caring parent/ caregiver communications - inclusive, involvement encouraged
Note: Pupils must come to realize that application is necessary to achieve some learning success.
Teachers need to insist that pupils learn what they are capable of learning. This is one of our main responsibilities.
Another of our main responsibilities, and without which learning/ teaching are hap-hazard, inefficient and often not effective, is to be well prepared and thoroughly planned.
Collegial support is of great assistance in ensuring the highest quality of teaching.
